Brioche Knitting, 1 and 2 Strands
Guess what!? More YouTubing. There are two videos in this post, with notes underneath.
First video is for single strand brioche knitting, worked flat.
Notes:
A demonstration of how to knit single strand, or one color, brioche stitch. This is intended as the first step toward two color, or two strand, brioche knitting.
Single Strand Brioche is actually quite simple. Cast on an even number of stitches, and then the pattern repeat is:
*bring yarn forward, slip 1 stitch purlwise. knit 1 stitch by bringing the yarn back OVER the top of the knitting needle.*
The yarn used in this video is NaturallyCaron Country, which is, unfortunately, discontinued. :-/
And now for double strand, or two color, brioche knitting, worked flat.
Notes:
A demonstration of two color brioche knitting, following up from the video I posted on single color brioche stitch.
The basic pattern repeat is below. Please note that “Row1C” means first row with contrast color, and “Row1M” means first row with main color.
Cast on an even number of stitches plus 1. (If you don’t want to do a two color cast on / bind off as shown in the video, I suggest casting on with your main color, mostly to keep the selvage edge the same color all the way up the sides.)
Row1C: Slip 1st stitch, *knit 1, yarn forward, slip 1, knit 1 with yarn coming back OVER the top of the needle* to end
++ move stitches back to other end of needles
Row1M: Slip 1st stitch, *yarn forward, slip 1, wrap yarn back over top of the needle, purl 1* to end
++ turn work
Row2C: as Row1M
Row2M: as Row1C
